The Mechanism

How Honey 141 Works

Bremelanotide activates melanocortin receptors in the brain that are involved in pathways of sexual desire and arousal.

Unlike ED medications such as sildenafil and tadalafil, it doesn’t work mainly by increasing blood flow.

It’s given as a small injection under the skin of the abdomen or thigh, at least 45 minutes before anticipated activity, as directed by your provider.

Questions

Common Questions

What is Honey 141?

Honey 141 is a compounded injectable form of bremelanotide, also known as PT-141. It’s prescribed by a licensed provider for adults whose main concern is low sexual desire, when the provider determines it’s appropriate.

Is bremelanotide FDA-approved?

An injectable bremelanotide product is FDA-approved for certain premenopausal women with low sexual desire disorder (HSDD). Honey 141 is a compounded version and is not FDA-approved. Use in men is off-label.

How is Honey 141 different from Honey Classic or other ED treatments?

ED treatments like sildenafil and tadalafil work mainly by improving blood flow. Bremelanotide works on pathways in the brain involved in desire. Your provider can explain which approach fits your concerns.

How do I take Honey 141?

Follow your prescription. Your provider will tell you how much to draw into the syringe and when to inject it before activity. Inject just under the skin of your abdomen or thigh, and don’t use more than one dose in 24 hours.

I’ve never given myself an injection. Is it hard?

The injection uses a small, thin insulin needle. Your kit includes step-by-step instructions and a video guide, and you can message your provider with any questions.

What’s in the kit?

One 5 mL vial of Honey 141, insulin syringes, alcohol swabs, a sharps container and printed instructions.

How should I store the vial?

Keep it refrigerated and away from light. After first use, discard any remaining medication by the date on the pharmacy label.

What are the most common side effects?

Nausea is the most common, especially with the first few doses. Flushing, headache and injection-site reactions can also occur. Tell your provider if side effects bother you.

Can I use Honey 141 with other sexual health medications?

Only if your provider specifically approves the combination. Don’t add sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil or other sexual health medications on your own.
